Excursion to Western Super Mare [2017]

The Ne Kongo families gathered under the Ne Kongo West Midland Community Association treated themselves with an excursion to Western Super Mare on July 22, 2017.

It was a great event that resulted from well-organized planning, meant to give members families an opportunity to enjoy life, to take part in an outing toward a touristic area, featured with facilities for everyone to enhance their wellbeing, together as one.

Our kids enjoyed a lot, some did some thrilling rides on donkey back, other played football along the beach; the dads got to run some dance steps, the moms jumped to the rope, some people got involved in sightseeing some local facilities such as arcade machines, or some more places of interest to them as they felt.

In short, the principle of inclusion was well implemented. People shared foods and drinks, as well in the bus during the outbound trip as on-site after their arrival.

Ne Kongo People shared also their emotional experience, having achieved what no other Congolese Community Associations had done so far. Ne Kongo People!

Let's keep on top of progress, and raise the bar of our aspirations to the highest standards so as to meet this slogan by Dr. Scope Nsumbu:  " Ne Kongo! Always one step ahead!"

Kongo Central Hospital Project [2019]
Medical Oxygen Cylinder Aid to Kongo Central region of the Democratic Republic of Congo

Members at General Assembly have reached a decision to raise funds and deliver the project. Ne Kongo membership was the sole funder for the whole project and all other costs involved. The management committee and all members entrusted Mr. Chris Makanzu Kosa [senior member] as the project manager. He had the complete responsibility of acquiring equipment and deliver to hospitals in the Kongo central region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The beneficiaries of the project were very excited and represented through 3 different hospitals: Hopital de référence de SONA-BATA, Maternité de référence in MBANZA NGUNGU and Hopital général de NSONA NKULU.  The project will save thousands of lives in the Kongo Central region.

Ne Kongo West Midlands explored some reports which suggested that the Democratic Republic of the Congo was lacking decent health and sanitary infrastructures. The East of the country has been living in a status of permanent war since 1994 and other populations in quest of security, have moved to the western part of the country namely Kongo Central. This region has registered many internally displaced people, many become refugees in their own country while others managed to escape to Kinshasa, the capital of the country.

Ne Kongo West Midlands Association undertook some research in delegating members back home where they had some workshop sessions with some health professionals, community leaders, key personnel who were managing local health centers, some local members of parliaments were associated and including media reporters. These discussions resulted in invaluable information that shed light on the understanding of Ne Kongo’s members of the calamities that were cracking unfortunate people in the Kongo Central region. This has helped to address a priority shortlist in terms of items of prime necessity. In line with this dialectic, the Oxygen Cylinders outweighed other needs.

Fighting Loneliness and Isolation and Bridging Digital Divide [2021]

Ne Kongo West Midlands have secured fund to acquire equipment and means to maintain an online platform to combat loneliness and isolation for those that are digitally lagging in the community.   The management committee and all members have praised BVSC through its Brum Recovery Fund for providing the financial resources. The project aims were to maintain weekly and monthly Zoom calls of 30 families throughout Birmingham city and allow members of the community to reduce their isolation and loneliness. Many community members have been isolating either themselves or members of their families who tested positive. Self-isolation means they must stay at home, and not leaving home because they could be at greater risk of passing COVID-19 on to others. While the impact has been very bad, but this is a critically important step for our community members to take when they are at the most risk of passing/contracting the virus to/from other people.

Therefore, to overcome barriers to community integration and reduce isolation and loneliness, the online meeting is the only way to bring people together on a weekly and monthly basis. Community members will have an opportunity to upskill in the digital world and learn for those with no skills at all. By utilizing our IT volunteers from the community, along with our and monthly Zoom meetings / Whatsapp communication webs and social media communications, our community members will feel again more connected. All beneficiaries of this project are spread around Birmingham city wards.
